Food Trip to Seoul : Dongdaemun, Street Food, and Bukchon Son Mandu

Mouth Watering Bukchon Son Mandu in Seoul South Korea

When the idea of visiting Seoul was brought up to me, delicious images of mandu, gimbap, bulgogi, and other Korean food items popped up in my brain. I love Korean food and looked forward to discovering the authentic taste of Korean food on this trip.

It was the end of April and the weather was perfect. You do need a sweater, a Spring jacket or a puffer vest to keep you warm. Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, is one of the most exciting cities in the world. We walked a lot everyday on this trip. Walking is a great way to explore the city. It allows us to observe the people of Seoul, what they like to do, and what they like to eat. You can experience the dynamic culture of the city.

Dongdaemun

One of our first destinations was Dongdaemun market. Dongdaemun (literally means Great East Gate) market is a big shopping district where you can find clothes, housewares, and souvenirs among other things. We took the subway there and got off at the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park station. We had a chance to try some street snacks on our way to the stores.

Almost everything is on a skewer. Fish cakes, shrimp balls, chicken balls - they all looked delicious.

The delicious chicken skewer. Yes, it tastes as good as it looks in the Kdrama.

We also had one of the best Korean dumplings (mandu) near Dongdaemun market. The dumpling shop is called Bukchon Son Mandu. We ran into it as we were walking toward the Dongdaemun market. Little did we know that it was a famous mandu chain. They have several branches in Seoul. We chose the combo plate, which turned out to be an excellent choice for sampling their mandu variety.

They also have a restaurant in Insadong if you happen to be there. The address is 6 Insadong 3-gil, Insa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
